Cyprus has two international airports, Larnaca (LCA) on the south-east coast and Paphos (PFO) in the west. Larnaca is the larger and handles most arrivals. From either one you have several ways to reach your accommodation, and knowing the options in advance makes arrival much smoother, especially late at night.
Getting from the airport
Your main choices are a pre-booked private transfer, a metered taxi from the airport rank, an airport shuttle bus, or a hire car collected at arrivals. Pre-booked transfers are popular with holidaymakers because the price is agreed up front and a driver meets you with your name on a board, which is reassuring after a long flight. Airport taxis are readily available at the rank and are convenient for shorter hops or when you have not arranged anything ahead.
How taxis work
Urban taxis use a meter, with a higher tariff overnight, on Sundays and public holidays, and small extra charges for luggage. For longer intercity trips, it is normal and sensible to confirm an approximate fare with the driver before setting off. Taxis are hailed at ranks, booked by phone or, increasingly, through apps in the larger towns. Cash is always accepted; ask first if you want to pay by card.
Rough journey times
From Larnaca airport it is a short drive into Larnaca town, roughly 45 minutes to Nicosia or Limassol, and around 1.5 hours to Paphos or Ayia Napa. From Paphos airport it is a quick trip into Paphos, and about an hour to Limassol. Traffic is generally light by big-city standards, but transfer times climb in peak summer.
Tips for a smooth transfer
Book transfers ahead in high season and for large groups. Note the driver's contact details in case of a delayed flight, and keep the resort address written down. If you use a metered taxi, check the meter is running and ask about fixed intercity rates. For late arrivals, a pre-arranged pickup avoids waiting. Public buses also connect the airports to town centres at low cost, though they run to a timetable and are slower with luggage.
